Six Interlake Players On All-Opponents List
KingCo Conference-champion Interlake, ranked No. 2 in the final Class AAA state coaches' baseball poll, led all KingCo teams with six players selected to seven spots on the Crest Division all-opponents team this season.
Senior Chris Caponigro made the first team both as a pitcher and center fielder.
The other Saints making the first team: catcher Nick Polier, first baseman Paul Ticen, third baseman Kevin Ticen, shortstop Brian Neher and left fielder Denny Kirkwood.
Kirkwood also made the second team as a pitcher. Chris Holmberg, who led Interlake with a .352 league average, earned honorable mention.
In state regional play Saturday, Interlake beat Puyallup 4-1 in the first round then lost to Cascade 11-6 in a state quarterfinal.
Woodinville, ranked No. 1 in the final state poll before its league-playoff elimination, earned four first-team all-opponent spots to lead the Crown Division.
Outfielder Donnie Murrell earned first-team honors for the Falcons along with three infielders: first baseman Brett Wille, second baseman Peter Finstuen and shortstop Todd Bertram. Woodinville pitcher Jason Bowles, third baseman Dustin Bruce and outfielder Mike Vivaldi all made the second team.
