Bomb Goes Off Outside Burien Courthouse -- Police Station Housed There Too
BURIEN - A pipe-bomb explosion last night shattered two glass doors at the King County Southwest District Courthouse, sending metal and shards of glass flying up to 30 yards away.
The court was unoccupied and no injuries were reported in the blast at about 10 last night, King County police Sgt. Joe Frank said.
The Southwest King County Police Precinct is also in the building, at 601 S.W. 149th St., and about a dozen officers were on duty at the time.
Frank said a witness reported seeing a blue van speeding away from the scene.
No arrests have been reported, and police said no motive has been determined. Damage to the building entrance was minimal.
At least two Seattle television and radio stations received calls from someone claiming responsibility for the blast, police spokesman Dave Robinson said.
"I haven't confirmed it yet," he said, "but they said the bombing was in retaliation for a recent narcotics raid we conducted."
