2 Charged With Murder In Slaying Last August

TACOMA

Prosecutors have charged two men with first-degree murder in the August slaying of an Enumclaw man.

Clifford Travis Davis, 26, of Ashford, Pierce County, and Perry Lee Spillers, 27, of Puyallup, were arrested hours after hikers discovered the skeletal remains of William A. Gilchrist, 29, on Saturday.

Gilchrist, a landscaper, disappeared after a tavern party in Ashford. In court documents, Pierce County prosecutors allege the suspects shot Gilchrist in the head and beat him with a tire iron, then pushed his body over a cliff near the Nisqually River.

Prosecutors said the murder followed an argument over the victim's former girlfriend.
