Back To The Future
When Burien residents dig up a time capsule at the Burien library 50 years from now, they'll be turning back the clock to Barbie dolls and in-line skates, in addition to their founding fathers.
Julie Moris, a member of Girl Scout Troop 50, is using her time-capsule project as a means to honor recent Burien cityhood and earn scouting's coveted Silver Award. The sealed plastic capsule was buried with instructions to open it on Feb. 28, 2043, the city's 50th anniversary.
Other items in it include the soundtrack of the movie "Aladdin;" the top three singles of the week of Feb. 28, including Michael Jackson's "Heal the World;" a VCR tape of popular TV shows and cartoons; a Coca-Cola can and a Diet Pepsi bottle; a pamphlet on a Nintendo video game; a Burien T-shirt, a photo album with Burien scenes, and names of the first Burien City Council.
Everthing fit into an urn donated by a funeral home.
In 50 years, Julie, a freshman at Highline High School, will be eligible for Social Security.
How time flies.
