Elbow Bothers Andy Nezelek
PEORIA, Ariz. - Young right-hander Andy Nezelek hyperextended his elbow throwing batting practice yesterday.
"I felt a pop and backed off," he said. "I feel good now, but the doctors want to be sure before I go back to work."
Nezelek said the injury had nothing to do with the problem that sidelined him for the 1991 season.
"That was shoulder trouble," he said. "But I don't want this to cost me playing time. I've already missed enough."
Left-hander Randy Johnson's back problem, suffered while running and doing drills the first day of camp, has cleared up enough that Johnson is expected to start throwing batting practice. He threw 10 minutes on the sideline again and took part in fielding drills.
