Man Sentenced To 26 Months In Sailor Slaying
SEATTLE
Timothy McGee, who one year ago was sentenced to six months in jail for his role in the wounding of a Seattle police officer, has been sent to prison for more than two years for killing a sailor near the Seattle Center last September.
King County Superior Court Judge Norma Smith-Huggins Friday sentenced McGee, to 26 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in the shooting death of Lafayttress Johnson, a sailor stationed in Bremerton.
McGee shot Johnson during a skirmish between alleged gang members and sailors outside the McDonald's Restaurant on Fifth Avenue North Sept. 12.
McGee originally was charged with second-degree murder, but pleaded to the reduced charge. King County prosecutors asked Huggins to sentence him to 34 months, but she opted for the lowest sentence allowed within state guidelines.
McGee, 20, was sentenced to six months in jail last February after being convicted of first-degree reckless endangerment in an incident that involved a Seattle Police officer being shot in the leg while he was responding to a disturbance in the Rainier Valley.
Prosecutors say McGee had six convictions, ranging from assault to attempted burglary to drug possession, as a juvenile.
