Vanillin Plant To Close For Lack Of Buyer
HOQUIAM, Grays Harbor County
ITT Rayonier says it is closing its vanillin plant, the last of the company's operations here, because it can't find a buyer.
The plant had been idle since Jan. 11 when ITT Rayonier suspended production of vanillin, which is used in making artificial vanilla, said spokeswoman Wendy Pugnetti.
The vanillin is made out of wood waste from a Hoquiam pulp mill that closed last year.
