Man Gets 20 Years For Molesting Boy

EVERETT

An Edmonds man with a history of sexual contact with minors was sentenced to 20 years in prison yesterday for molesting an 11-year-old boy he befriended.

Calvin Elmer Malone, 41, pleaded guilty last month to first-degree child-rape and two other felonies in part to avoid putting the victim through the trauma of a trial, his attorney said.

Malone became friends with the boy, taking him on camping trips and inviting him to spend the night at his home, Deputy Prosecutor Gerry MacCamy said.

The boy's parents became suspicious when Malone began buying their son gifts and taking him out for expensive dinners. When he was questioned, the boy admitted that Malone was touching him and having sex with him.

A search warrant served at Malone's apartment turned up nearly 50 pictures of the boy, plus numerous slides of nude boys and men. Malone was convicted in Oregon of sex abuse and sodomy involving children, MacCamy said.
