Shorecrest's Defense Smothers Oak Harbor

Chris Linhardt scored 10 of his team's 17 first-quarter points and Shorecrest went on to smother Oak Harbor with a suffocating defense in a 55-26 nonleague boys basketball victory.

Shorecrest, the Class AA state runner-up last season, raised its 1992-93 record to 2-1.

Linhardt's first-quarter outburst last night included one three-point basket, as the Scots jumped to a 17-2 lead. Linhardt finished with 19 points (two three-pointers) and Travis Greer had 17.

Manny Martucci led Oak Harbor with 13 points.

-- EVERETT 45, AT MEADOWDALE 30 - The Seagulls outscored Meadowdale 12-2 in the second quarter en route to the nonleague victory. Mike White and Hector Juarez scored nine points each to lead Everett (3-2). James Pierson scored 11 and Ryan Gabutero added eight for Meadowdale (0-5). -- O'DEA 61, AT SHOREWOOD 58 - James Jackson hit the front end of a one-and-one free-throw situation with two seconds left as the Fighting Irish held off the Thunderbirds in a nonleague game. Shorewood made four steals in the final minute after O'Dea had built a 58-46 lead with two minutes left.

Ryan Williams, a 6-5 center, led the Irish (4-0) with 14 points. Lonnie Franklin and Matt Westphal added 12 and 11, respectively. Mike McKinney and Ryan Griffin paced Shorewood (2-1) with 12 each. -- KING'S 61 AT LAKEWOOD 43 - Chad Urie scored 15 points and Jeremy DuBose 14 as the Knights (1-0, 3-2) won the Cascade League opener. Jason Beam contributed 10 rebounds and 10 assists from his off-guard position. Carlos Ancheta led Lakewood (0-1, 0-5) with 12. -- BELLEVUE CHRISTIAN 57, AT SULTAN 50 - Senior post Aaron Smith scored 15 points and Steve Bauer 12 as Bellevue Christian won the Cascade League opener. Bauer and John Sinnema each had six steals for the league's defending champion (1-2 overall). Jeremy Craig, with 12 points, and Matt Koehler, 10, led Sultan (0-1, 2-3). -- AT SNO-KING LUTHERAN 61, NORTHWEST SCHOOL 52 - David Horton hit seven of eight from three-point range to score 37 points and lead the Crusaders to a Sea-Tac B League victory. Horton scored 14 of the Crusaders' 15 points during the fourth quarter and connected on 27 of his points in the second half. Kouske Yamada added 16 points for Sno-King Lutheran (1-1, 1-2). Alex Wang led Northwest School (0-4 in league) with 19 points. -- AT SEATTLE CHRISTIAN 73, BUSH 68 - Michael Sins, a 6-7 senior, scored 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to boost Seattle Christian (2-2). Joaquin Mason had 23 points and Chris Guise 21 for Bush (3-4).
