Chrysler Names Robert Eaton To Succeed Iacocca

DETROIT

Robert Eaton was elected today as chairman of Chrysler Corp., replacing the retiring Lee Iacocca.

Eaton, 52, was also elected chief executive officer by the board of directors. The changes take effect Jan. 1.

The selection had been expected. Eaton came to Chrysler from General Motors Corp. last spring, when he was named vice chairman and chief operating officer. He had been president of GM Europe.

Eaton immediately named company President Robert Lutz, 60, as chief operating officer, with responsibility for car and truck operations worldwide.

Thomas Denomme, 53, will join the office of chairman as executive vice president and chief administrative officer, and Jerome York, 54, will be executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Iacocca will retire Dec. 31 after 14 years with Chrysler.
