Burning Bush Takes Unique Approach To Graphic Design

SEATTLE

A new graphics design firm has joined the Seattle scene. Burning Bush Studio is run by designers Mike Styskal and Frank Zepponi, who formerly worked for Phinney Design in Seattle.

The two search for different ways to approach a project, said Zepponi, using materials such as synthetic fur in creating barbecue aprons.

Currently, the company counts the American Institute of Graphic Art and the Seattle Athletic Club among its clients. The two are fashioning invitations for the AIGA's studio tours, depicting 1960s rock music and psychedelic themes. The company is creating T-shirts that use "iconic expression" for the Athletic Club. For instance, one T-shirt shows a walnut, signifying a health nut.

The name of the company is "kind of a political, religious and sexual statement," Zepponi said. "It's one of those loaded words. . . Something that will make people curious."
