John Hancock, Bartender In TV's `Love & War,' Dies Of Heart Attack
LOS ANGELES - Actor John Hancock, who co-starred in CBS' new comedy "Love & War," was found dead in his Los Angeles home after suffering a heart attack, a network spokeswoman said yesterday.
The body of Hancock, who was in his early 50s, was discovered yesterday after he failed to report to work. The actor played acerbic bartender Ike Johnson on "Love & War," the newest series from "Murphy Brown" creators Diane English and Joel Shukovksy.
"His wonderful gift and gentle presence inspired us and touched us," English said in a network statement.
Production on the series, which stars Susan Dey and Jay Thomas, has been halted for at least one week. Four unaired episodes featuring Hancock will be shown at later dates.
Hancock also was known to television viewers for his recurring role as a tough-minded judge on "L.A. Law." Besides the small screen, Hancock's career spanned film and stage roles.
He appeared in the feature films "A Soldier's Story" and "Foul Play." On stage, he played Willie Loman in an African-American presentation of "Death of a Salesman."
