Five Rescued After Fishing Boat Sinks

JUNEAU, Alaska

Five people were pulled from the Bering Sea after their Washington-based fishing vessel sank in 10-foot seas, the Coast Guard reported.

Rescued yesterday were Majestic skipper Tom Bedell, 42, of South Bend, Pacific County; Jim Owen, 24, and Edmond J. Rimbaugh, 26, both of Lynnwood; Brian Journey, 32, of Everett, and Scott Keiffer, 30, of Klamath Falls, Ore.

The Majestic was owned by Paul F. Clampitt of Everett, the Coast Guard said. The vessel went down about 60 miles south of St. Paul Island, one of the Pribilof chain off southwest Alaska.

All five were rescued by a Coast Guard helicopter and rushed to St. Paul Medical Clinic on the island. They were reported in good condition although one was in shock and all suffered from mild hypothermia, the Coast Guard said.

The cause of the sinking was under investigation.
