Lopez Island Crash Kills All 4 On Flight

LOPEZ ISLAND, San Juan County

A single-engine plane nosedived into the ground near the airport on Lopez Island, killing the two Vashon Island couples on board, San Juan County Sheriff William Cumming said yesterday.

The victims were identified as John Konecki, 42, and his wife, Susan Konecki, 39; and Richard Hacker, 52, and a woman believed to be his wife, Sarah. Cumming said her identification was tentative pending X-rays and an autopsy today.

Konecki owned the Cessna 170A and was believed to have been the pilot, Cumming said.

The Koneckis and Hackers took off from Vashon on Saturday to spend the night at a friend's cabin on Lopez Island, he said.
