Damon Canfield, Former State Legislator
SUNNYSIDE, Yakima County - Former state legislator Damon Canfield has died at age 94.
Mr. Canfield, a Republican who served 22 years in the Legislature, died of cancer in a Bothell nursing home Aug. 14.
He was elected to the state House of Representatives in 1952 and to the state Senate in 1966.
He retired in 1975 when redistricting removed him from his district.
Before entering politics he was a schoolteacher in the Yakima Valley and raised cherries, apples and cattle near Granger.
He was a Central Washington State Fair trustee.
In the Legislature, Mr. Canfield authored a law that funded roadside-litter cleanup through a business tax.
