`Slimy' Thing In Coke Leads To A Lawsuit

SHELTON, Mason County

A Belfair woman has sued the Coca-Cola Co., alleging she became ill after drinking from a can of Coke that contained a foreign object.

Judy Lowe filed the suit Monday in Mason County Superior Court. Court documents do not say how much money she is seeking.

Lowe, 52, said she opened a can of Coke on June 23, 1991, that was flat and tasted funny and that she felt something "hard and slimy."

An X-ray of the can showed a lump approximately one inch by three inches, Lowe said.

The experience kept her vomiting intermittently for eight days, Lowe said.

An analysis by the Food and Drug Administration showed the lump was muscle and blood vessels from an unidentifiable mammal, Lowe said.

Randy Donaldson, a spokesman for Atlanta-based Coca Cola, said yesterday the company had not yet seen the lawsuit and therefore could not comment.
