Redmond Woman To Oversee Festivities -- Grande Crowned Miss Seafair At Ceremony
Alison Louise Grande of Redmond was crowned the 1992-1993 Miss Seafair at a ceremony last night.
Grande, 19, is a sophomore at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma who has worked with Redmond police in the local D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program and was a cheerleader at Redmond High School. She represents the Redmond Derby Days Committee.
Grande will receive a $4,000 college scholarship and will travel to Canada, Mexico and Japan representing Seafair over the next year. She also received the competition's Top College Academic Award for her academic record at PLU.
She was crowned by Sherene Chan, Miss Seafair 1991-92, at Meany Hall on the University of Washington campus.
Kathryn Eva Korslund, 21, a University of Washington sophomore who has appeared as a national spokesperson for AIDS education, was chosen as first runner-up. Korslund, of Seattle, will receive a $1,000 scholarship. She represented the Navy League of the United States-Seattle Council.
Second, third and fourth runners-up, respectively, were Anna Lyn Persha, 19, sponsored by the Auburn Noon Lions Club; Ina Daniels, 18, representing the Central Area Youth Association; and Stephanie Chang, 22, sponsored by the Seattle Chinese Chamber of Commerce. Second runner-up Persha will receive a $600 scholarship, and Daniels and Chang each receive $500.
Persha also received the competition's talent award.
Also chosen as top-10 finalists were: Emily Johnson, 19, Queen Anne Chamber of Commerce; Priya Ayyar, 18, Delta Tau Delta Fraternity; Taryn Michelle Brinson, 18, Greenwood Chamber of Commerce; Heather Dimbat, 18, Edmonds Chamber of Commerce; and Elizabeth Pauley, 18, African-American Soul Festival Scholarship Pageant.
The winners were chosen from 30 Seafair Princesses representing community groups from Seattle and surrounding suburbs.
