Ft. Lewis Woman Killed By Bear At Alaskan Cabin
GLENNALLEN, Alaska
A Fort Lewis woman was killed yesterday by a black bear at a cabin near here, about 150 miles east of Anchorage.
Alaska state troopers said Darcy Staver, 33, was killed after her husband went for help. The bear had climbed a tree to reach her perch on the roof of the cabin.
Staver, a former Alaska resident, and her husband, Michael, were staying at the cabin they own near Glennallen when a black bear entered the house through a back window.
The couple fled to the roof. While Michael Staver went for help, as the couple had agreed, the bear killed his wife.
Authorities killed the bear.
