Markair Inc. Begins To Consolidate

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - MarkAir Inc. recently announced personnel changes to consolidate Mark Air and MarkAir Express as part of cost-cutting moves to get the airline out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Mike Bergt, president of MarkAir Express and son of owner Neil Bergt, was named president of both companies. Ralph Brumbaugh, recently appointed president of MarkAir, was reappointed adviser to the elder Bergt, the company said.

Mike Bergt, 31, said the company would lay off employees, but he did not yet know how many people would lose their jobs.

Five vice presidents would either lose their jobs or be reassigned, he said. He did not identify them.

The company continues to fly throughout Alaska and to Seattle under the Chapter 11 plan.
