Queen Anne Hill -- Why Should Any Radiation Be Tolerated Near Towers?

This is in response to Andrew Taylor's letter of May 11 calling for a one-sided compromise between the three major network affiliates and the Queen Anne community over the status of broadcast towers in residential neighborhoods. I have a number of questions for him.

Are you aware of the fact that in the Soviet Union the allowable level of radiation is 20 times less than the new city ordinance with no averages allowed to factor out the levels during peak usage?

Are you aware of the Spokane School District's attempts to buy out two radio towers located across from an elementary school because of radiation concerns?

What do you think of the recent discovery that human beings have magnetite in the brain cells? Do you understand the distinct possibility of damage to those cells from electromagnetic fields (EMF) such as those put out by KING, KOMO and KIRO?

You claim radiation levels are low on Queen Anne Hill. Why should there be any at all?

Why did our Department of Health coin the phrase "prudent avoidance" when discussing human and EMF interface?

Why is it that the only people who say there is no hazard from EMF are those who are paid to say it and those who need favorable press coverage? - Jim Sullivan, Seattle, Citizens Against Tower Expansion
