Key Bank Assigns New Management Posts

Puget Sound Bancorp's top two executives will assume key management positions in the new Key Bank of Washington when the merger of the two banks is completed later this year.

W.W. Philip, chairman and chief executive officer of Puget Sound Bancorp will be chairman, while Don Vandenheuvel, president and chief financial officer of Puget Sound of Tacoma, will be vice chairman.

Hans Harjo, president and chief executive officer of Key Bank of Washington since 1989, will retain those titles in the new organization. Key Bank will become the second-largest commercial bank in the state, with approximately 175 branches and more than $7 billion in assets.

Other appointments announced yesterday include:

Dale Clark, executive vice president, community banking at Puget Sound Bancorp, becomes executive vice president, Southwest region. He will be responsible for 69 branches in Southwest Washington, the Olympic Peninsula, and Pierce and Thurston counties.

Gary Gardner, executive vice president for credit administration at Puget Sound Bancorp, becomes executive vice president, wholesale services division. He will be responsible for commercial lending, private banking, cash management, international and income property functions.

Wiliam Haley, chief financial officer, Key Bank, becomes executive vice president, credit administration division, responsible for credit policy, loan review, special assets and community reinvestment functions.

Ray Highsmith Jr., executive vice president, Puget Sound Bancorp, becomes executive vice president business development.

James Malerba, senior vice president and deputy controller, KeyCorp, becomes executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Susan Mann, senior vice president, director of human resources and strategic planning coordinator, Key Bank, becomes senior vice president, special projects and planning.

Lois Martin, senior vice president, information services group, Puget Sound Bancorp, becomes executive vice president, administrative services division.

David Nasman, president and chief executive officer, Bellingham National Bank, becomes executive vice president, Northwest region. He will be responsible for 22 branches in Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan and Island counties.

Gordon Piercy, senior vice president and marketing director, Puget Sound Bancorp, becomes senior vice president, marketing and sales division.

Lazarus Politakis, senior executive vice president and chief credit officer, chairman of the senior loan committee, Puget Sound Bancorp, becomes executive vice president, retail loan division.

Richard Sproul, executive vice president and manager, retail banking group, Key Bank, becomes executive vice president, Central region, responsible for 88 branches in King and Snohomish counties.

Tex Whitney, senior vice president and personnel director, Puget Sound Bancorp, becomes senior vice president, human resources division.

Still to be announced is the executive vice president, Eastern region.
