Longacres' Top Jockeys At A Glance
Quick - name the last year Longacres boasted a tight race for winningest jockey entering the final month of the season.
It's been 11 years since Jody Davidson (80 winners) edged Larry Pierce (76), Troy Grissom (73) and Gary Baze (72), for the 1981 riding title.
Since then, one jockey has run away with the title each year. Gary Boulanger amassed 637 victories to win the past three championships. Vicky Aragon won the title in '86 and '88. Chris Lamance picked up the '87 crown. Gary Baze took the '82 and '85 crowns. Gary Stevens steamrolled to the '83 and '84 championships.
Since Boulanger decided to ride in California this summer, and contender Tim Camargo, who was first 58 times last year, is riding in Oklahoma, the jockey race appears wide open.
