Bourque Hits 1,000-Point Milestone

BOSTON - The Boston Bruins have had many Hall of Fame defensemen - Eddie Shore, Dit Clapper, Bobby Orr and Brad Park are a prominent part of NHL history.

At 31, Ray Bourque has passed them all, one of only three defensemen ever to reach 1,000 points.

In his 13th season with Boston, Bourque reached the 1,000-point plateau with an assist on Bobby Carpenter's goal at 18:22 of the third period yesterday as the Bruins rallied from three three-goal deficits for a 5-5 tie with Washington.

Bourque also scored his 17th goal and assisted on the first of two goals by Brent Ashton as he joined defensemen Paul Coffey and Denis Potvin in the 1,000-point club. Bourque has 268 goals and 732 assists in 933 regular-season games.
