Cavaliers Win Game, But Not Fight
RICHFIELD, Ohio - As if the Cleveland Cavaliers' 119-115 overtime victory over Indiana didn't supply enough drama, the Cavs and Pacers had a fight outside the Cleveland dressing room after the game.
According to witnesses, John Battle and trainer Gary Briggs were at the door of the Cavaliers' dressing room last night when Indiana's George McCloud came up from behind and punched Battle in the face.
Bleeding from the mouth, Battle staggered backward and grabbed a board. At that point, a security guard stepped between the two players and broke up the fight.
McCloud and the Pacer players refused to comment.
Apparently McCloud remained angry about a confrontation he had with Battle with 10:55 left in the fourth quarter.
"I was trying to come off a screen; he (McCloud) wouldn't let me move," Battle said. "I tried to go around him, and he pushed me. You expect to get hit hard if it's a basketball play, but that wasn't a basketball play."
McCloud was nailed with a personal foul, Battle a technical.
Later, in the overtime period, Cleveland's Mark Price had the ball and was dribbling up court for a fast-break layup when he was body-checked by Indiana's Chuck Person.
"I thought he (Person) got me with an elbow, so I threw the ball off his back," said Price, who was assessed a technical, Person a regular foul.
A Pacers-Cavaliers rematch is scheduled tomorrow night in Indianapolis.
