Four-time Longacres riding champion Lennie Knowles died Wednesday, Oct. 30. He was 56. Knowles had been diagnosed with cancer this summer.

Knowles rode some of the Northwest's top thoroughbreds, including Longacres Derby winners Smogy Dew (1964) and Table Run (1973).

Knowles, born in Chelan, is survived by his wife Beverly, son Damon and daughter Sandra. Services will be held Monday, Nov. 4, at 1 p.m. at the Weeks-Whitmore Funeral Home in Buckley.
