Safeway Plans To Build Larger Store In Crown Hill
CROWN HILL
Safeway Stores Inc. plans to replace its store at Northwest 83rd Street and 15th Avenue Northwest with one twice as big, the company said.
Jim Carroll, store-development director for Safeway in Seattle, said the company hopes to open the store by late 1992. He wouldn't disclose the project's cost.
The company seeks to rezone a corner of the lot on which the existing store sits to allow for the bigger store.
Carroll said the new store is part of a companywide program to renovate and replace stores. The old store, at 20,000 square feet, isn't big enough for the specialty departments that have become popular at grocery stores, including Safeway. The new store will be 43,000 square feet.
