Dover Perry Does It All For Hazen
HIGHLINE - Dover Perry had a rather well-rounded game last night for the Hazen High School football team. At quarterback, he passed for two touchdowns, rushed for two more, and kicked four extra points.
For good measure, Perry turned around and led the Highlander defense with two interceptions as Hazen defeated Evergreen 46-21 in their Seamount League opener in Highline Stadium.
Hazen, ranked No. 4 in the state in The Times' Class AA poll, was also propelled by the 131 yards rushing of Mark Carlson.
The Highlanders held a 14-7 lead over the Wolverines at halftime, then scored the next three touchdowns to catapult to a 33-7 lead after three quarters.
Evergreen quarterback Matt Johnson completed 8 of 20 passes for 104 yards, including a 57-yard play to receiver Bryan Perkins for the Wolverines' first touchdown. At cornerback, Johnson recovered a fourth-quarter fumble and returned it 88 yards for a touchdown. Evergreen running back Nick DeLaCruz rushed for 90 yards and one touchdown.
