RENTON
Three U.S. companies have been awarded contracts worth more than $1 billion for major systems and structures for the Boeing 777.
Boeing recently signed multiyear contracts with two divisions of Rockwell International Corp. of Tulsa, Okla; Grumman Corp of Bethpage, N.Y.; and Allied Signal Aerospace Co. of Torrance, Calif.
Rockwell's Tulsa division will provide the aluminum wing leading-edge slats, along with previously announced composite floor beams. Its Collins Air Transport division in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, will furnish the twinjet's autopilot flight-director system.
Grumman will supply the inboard flaps, and Allied Signal will supply the ram-air turbine, the air-driven unit system, cabin pressure and air-control systems, and the auxiliary power unit for the new plane.
