Ex-Ranger Boss Fatally Shoots Female Prowler

Mike Stone, former president of the Texas Rangers, fatally shot a woman who broke into his home early today, police in Fort Worth, Texas, said.

Police said the woman, who lived in Stone's Arlington Heights neighborhood, ignored warnings to "get the hell out" and kept climbing a stairwell toward Stone's bedroom.

Kenice Miller, 46, was shot once in the head as she walked up the winding staircase inside Stone's two-story home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting occurred about 5 a.m., shortly after Stone told police he was awakened by a noise. Police said no charges would be filed against Stone.

Police had dealt with Miller on an unrelated call about three hours earlier after a resident reported a suspicious person in a neighborhood several miles south of the Stone home. Police Chief Thomas Windham said police also had determined that Miller earlier in the night had broken into a church.
