Man In Custody In Holly Park Killing

SEATTLE

A 24-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with the slaying of a young woman and the wounding of two other people in the Holly Park neighborhood early yesterday.

The dead woman has been identified as Karen J. Kirby, 20, who was shot and killed while lying in bed next to her 4-week-old daughter in their apartment unit in the 7500 block of Holly Park Drive South.

Two men kicked in the door of the apartment about 3 a.m. and fired several shots from at least one shotgun and a handgun, police said. They believe Kirby wasn't the person the men were trying to kill, but was shot in an attempt to eliminate witnesses.
