A Granite Falls man was sentenced to 16 years, eight months in prison yesterday for the murder of a guest at a party last year.
Melvin White was found guilty in November of second-degree murder in the death of David Post, 29.
Snohomish County prosecutors said the two got into a fight at White's house during a party and went outside to settle it. Prosecutors said witnesses saw White beat Post with a tire iron. Post's body later was found in a nearby creek.
White claimed the killing was in self-defense.
At minimum, White will serve two-thirds of his sentence, or 11 years, four months, Snohomish County Deputy Prosecutor Kenneth Cowsert
said.
