Police Look For Clues In Woman's Death
Police have identified a woman whose body washed up on a Tacoma beach Aug. 15 as 26-year-old Tracey Lee Wooten, but said yesterday they have ``surprisingly little'' evidence about her or why she was killed.
Wooten, who was arrested and convicted several times for prostitution, is believed to have been severely beaten and then dumped into the northeast Tacoma shoreline near Marine View Drive, on or about Aug. 7, said Tacoma Police spokesman Mark Mann.
Police said the case has been classified a homicide.
Wooten had at least three aliases: Tracey Wooten Nelson, Tracey Lee Nelson and Jennifer Lee Hansen.
One of the few facts known to police is that Wooten was active in the area of South 24th Street and Pacific Avenue South in downtown Tacoma, Mann said.
A $1,000 reward has been posted for information leading to the arrest of her killer.
Authorities have been unable to find friends or family of the dead woman. Mann urged the victims' family and friends to call the Tacoma Police Department 591-5646 or Crimestoppers 591-5959.
