Here's What's On The Menu
The Bite of Seattle, the annual food festival that this year offers samples from 62 restaurants, was to begin today at Seattle Center at 11 a.m. and continues through Sunday. The average ``bite'' is $3; admission is free.
John Hinterberger, Seattle Times restaurant critic, offers his own collection of Bite favorites at his ``Hinterberger's Alley'' on the Seattle Center grounds. Those include:
A.J. Wok - orange beef.
Calabria Ristorante (Italian) - tortellini Francesco.
Kaspar's by the Bay - chocolate bread pudding.
Marco Polo Restaurant - chicken curry with basmati rice pilaf.
Palomino Bistro - tiramisu: chocolate sponge cake soaked with espresso.
Ristorante Stresa - cannelloni.
Thai Thai Restaurant - Pud Thai: pan-fried rice noodle.
Wild Ginger - boneless breast of chicken with spicy Malaysian peanut sauce.
Restaurants featured at the Bite are:
1. TCBY Yogurt (Yogurt) - A variety of frozen yogurts.
2. Dave's Down Home Bar-B-Que (American) - Barbecued ribs, pork and chicken.
3. Ballard Brothers (American) - Cajun blackened halibut or salmon fillets served with pasta salad.
4. Providence Medical Center (American) - Cajun spiced crawfish served with a Creole rice salsa.
5. Senor Frogg (Mexican) - Chicken fajitas.
6. Sun Blest Foods Inc. (American) - Tender chunks of choice steak and mushrooms in mildly spiced gravy and baked in a pie.
7. Mrs. Fields Cookies (Cookies) - Semi-sweet without nuts, white chunk macademia, Debra's Special and milk chocolate cookies.
8. Kaleenka (Russian) - Piroshky, yeast-raised dough filled with oven-roasted beef and cheddar cheese baked to a golden brown.
9. Dankens Gourmet Ice Cream (Ice Cream) - Hand-dipped Dankens super premium ice creams in a variety of flavors.
10. San Carlos (Mexican) - Marinated and roasted beef rolled into a soft fajita tortilla with salsa, cheddar cheese and fresh cilantro.
11. McCormick and Schmicks (American) - Fresh bay shrimp cocktails served with a slice of lemon.
12. Bravo and Pizzeria Paglicci (Italian) - Agnallotti pasta in a creamy crab sauce.
13. Biringer Farms (American) - Fresh strawberries and raspberries served over buttermilk biscuits topped with whipped cream.
14. The Frankfurter (German) - Old-fashioned German-style sausage served on a French roll with a variety of condiments.
15. Cafe Kim (Chinese) - Deep-fried prawns in a tempura batter.
16. Landau's (Ice Cream) - Chill Pill, a marionberry sorbet floated in raspberry. New York seltzer made famous in Hinterberger's Alley at the 1989 Bite.
17. Ebru Mediterranean Deli (Mediterranean) - Baklava, a sweet pastry made of delicate layers of phyllo dough, walnuts and honey.
18. Hiram's At the Locks (American) - Mesquite-broiled salmon on French bread.
19. C'est Moo Ice Cream (Ice Cream) - Two scoops of old-fashioned vanilla ice cream covered with fresh strawberries or rich chocolate syrup and topped with whipped cream and served in a colossal waffle cone.
20. Metropolitan Grill (American) - Mesquite-broiled filet mignon sandwiches.
21. Elliot's Oyster House and Seafood Restaurant (American) - Oysters on the half-shell, shucked on site.
22. Poor Italian Cafe (Italian) - Authentic homemade ravioli filled with beef, veal, spinach and cheese topped with a robust marinara sauce.
23. Cafe Loc (Vietnamese) - Marinated pork char-broiled on a bamboo skewer.
24. Hadi's (Lebanese) - Chicken Shawarma, marinated chunks of chicken served with fresh vegetables on pita bread.
25. Pietro's Pizza (Italian) - Hot pizza by the slice.
26. H.D. Hotspurs (American) - Hotspurs' famous barbecued spareribs served with bread and pickle.
27. Swiss Pastry (Scandinavian) - Three inches of almond cake topped with chocolate Kahlua mousse.

29. Sunset Cafe (Dessert) - Dark chocolate cake topped with fresh strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and chocolate whipped cream.
30. Continental on the Ave (Greek) - Smoked Loukancio sausage sandwich served in pita bread with tomatoes, onions and lettuce in a tzatziki cucumber sauce.
31. Entrees (Pacific Rim) - Alaskan sea dagger combo of scallops, prawns, fresh salmon or halibut chunks barbecued over coals and basted with a thick Asian honey-ginger sauce.
32. Seattle Super Smoke (American) - Smoked chicken drumettes served with barbecued beans and Boston bread.
33. Catfish Corner (Southern) - Southern farm-raised catfish fillets served with deep-fried cornbread hushpuppies.
34. Kabab Corner (Greek) - Beef and chicken gyro sandwiches.
35. Philly's (American) - Thinly sliced steak, melted cheese, sauteed peppers, onions and mushrooms served on an Italian hoagie.
36. Cardarelli's Pizza (Italian) - Pita bread stuffed with meatballs and a special sauce.
37. Swensen's (American) - Dark, rich, chewy chocolate fudge brownie, topped with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge and whipped cream.
38. Chili's (American) - One-half rack of char-broiled barbecued baby back ribs served with cinnamon apples.
39. Dukes (American) - Dukes' homemade clam chowder, winner of the Puget Sound Chowder-Offthree years in a row.
40. La Mediterranean (Southern) - Creole-Cajun jambalaya shrimp, gumbo and rice.

50. Karam's (Lebanese) - Falafil, a zesty high-protein vegetarian pita sandwich of ground garbonzo beans, onions, parsley and spices shaped into balls, deep fried and topped with onion, tomato, parsley and tahini sauce.
