Christ the King School's eighth-grade history class has received a local first place and statewide third-place award for its entry in a map contest sponsored by the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution Commission.
The 19 students in Georgia Lindquist's class submitted a 2-foot-by-3-foot map of the 13 original colonies marked with significant dates in the country's history.
The northwest King County school's entry placed first in the 1st Congressional District and third in Washington state. Rep. John Miller, R-Seattle, presented a U.S. flag and $100 prize to the class.
Lindquist said the money will be used to buy computer software for the school's history department.
