Five Ex-Olympians Anchor Women's Basketball Team
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Former U.S. Olympians Vicki Bullett, Cynthia Cooper, Teresa Edwards, Katrina McClain and Lynette Woodard head the list of 12 players named to the 1990 U.S. women's national basketball team.
Lisa Leslie, a 6-foot-5 center who scored 101 points in one half of a high-school game earlier this year, was the final player cut from the squad announced yesterday.
The team will play in the World Championships July 9-22 in Malaysia and in the Goodwill Games July 28-Aug. 5 in Seattle.
Woodard and Edwards have played on two Olympic teams. Bullett, Cooper and McClain were on the U.S. team that competed in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
The team will train through Monday at the Olympic Training Center here, then move to Los Angeles for further training. From July 1-8, the team will be in Taiwan for exhibition games.
Others players selected to the squad and their colleges: Jennifer Azzi and Sonja Henning of Stanford; Carolyn Jones and Vickie Orr, Auburn; Medina Dixon, Old Dominion; Vicki Hall, Texas; and Beth Hunt, South Carolina.
The head coach is Teresa Grentz of Rutgers.
