Song Released In Memory Of Slain Woman

A song dedicated to the memory of Amanda Stavik is being released to help finance a scholarship created in the murdered college student's name.

Mary Stavik, whose daughter was raped and killed last November, hopes the song will help people remember Amanda in a positive way.

``She lived life to the fullest, and I want people to remember that about her,'' Stavik said.

``Mandy's Song'' was written and recorded by Pete Stewart and Annie Sirguy, students from Mount Baker High School in Deming, Whatcom County, who were friends of 18-year-old Amanda.

Money raised from sales of the $3 cassette, being sold at Puget Sound-area Fred Meyer stores, will go to the Mandy Stavik Memorial Scholarship at the high school, Stavik said.

Amanda, known as Mandy to her friends and family, was a student at Central Washington University. She had returned home for Thanksgiving when she disappeared Nov. 24 while jogging near her family's home in Acme.

Her body was later found in the Nooksack River. There are no suspects, said Whatcom County Sheriff Larry Mount, but two deputies have been working full time on the case.

A $25,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case, Stavik said.
