Costco Wholesale Corp. says it is closing three of its Florida warehouses, in Tampa, Clearwater and Palm Harbor, on June 16 because they are not profitable. The company entered the west Florida market three years ago. Costco estimates it will cost $6 million to close the stores, and will cause a profit loss of $3.7 million, or 10 cents a share, for the third quarter, which ended May 13.

After the closings, the company will have nine Florida stores, most in the Miami and Palm Beach areas. Altogether, the company will have 62 warehouses in nine states and western Canada.
