Three Seafair Pirates died yesterday in a one-car accident on their way back to Seattle from an appearance in Winthrop, the King County medical examiner's office reported.
The accident occurred at 5:30 a.m. on Interstate 90, 3 1/2 miles east of Issaquah, the Washington State Patrol reported.
The victims were identified as Frederick L. Johnson, 27, Seattle; Mark E. Kramer, 27, Mountlake Terrace; and John F. Kennedy Christoph, 26, Seattle. All three men died at the scene.
Because they were all thrown from the car, investigators were unable to determine who was driving the 1989 Chevrolet Beretta. None of the men was wearing a seat belt.
The westbound car was traveling downhill through rain at the ``Preston dip'' on I-90 when the vehicle ran off the median side of the roadway and down an embankment, according to the State Patrol. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
