PORT MOODY, B.C.
One man died and four other people were injured slightly when fire raced through a hotel in this Vancouver suburb.
The cause of the fire remained undetermined yesterday, and police withheld the identity of the dead man.
Police Sgt. Doug Townsend praised the staff of the Port Moody Inn for helping to evacuate the building quickly early Saturday. About 70 people were in the hotel when the blaze erupted in a second-floor suite.
The fire heavily damaged the old section of the hotel, but 65 firefighters from Port Moody and neighboring Coquitlam saved a newer
wing.
