End Is Near For Work On City's Bus Tunnel
-- The first few months of the new year will see completion of the downtown bus tunnel, Metro says.
Two stations, Westlake and Convention Place, are almost complete now, the agency announced. At the Pioneer Square station, granite installation and electrical work will be finished this month. Similar work remains to be completed at the International District and University Street stations, Metro said.
Tile work and light fixtures are all that remain to be done at the International District station and at University Street, crews are also installing granite and lights, as well as painting.
Most of the overhead trolley wires are in and rails, permitting the tunnel to be converted from bus to light rail operation at some time in the future, are scheduled for installation this spring.
Buses should be running through the tunnel in September, said
Metro.
